MONTSERRAT & COLONIA GÜELL (GAUDI CRYPT)

Once in Catalonia, a visit to the world famous Montserrat Monastery is a must. You have a beautiful view in all directions from this spectacular mountain formation called the "Sawn Mountain". Montserrat is the second largest pilgrimage center in Spain. In Montserrat you can visit the beautiful basilica and nearby you can take walks to enjoy the beautiful views.

Before we go to Montserrat we first visit the Colonia Güell.

The Colonia Güell is actually a small village, a collection of buildings and was created at the initiative of the well-known entrepreneur Eusebi Güell. In 1890 he had the textile factory built on his own land with houses and facilities for the workers, all in the beautiful modernist architectural style. He gave his friend Antoni Gaudí carte blanche in 1898 to build a church in the village. What remains is the Crypt of Gaudí, also called the best kept secret of Gaudí's works. The Crypt has been on the UNESCO list since 2005. You will have a tour of the village and visit the beautiful crypt. Then we drive on to Montserrat. A unique day!
